FRANKLIN, Mass. (WWLP) – A big Star Wars fan won the $5.37 million Megabucks jackpot sold on May 4th in Northborough.

According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, James Jorgensen of Northborough along with his partner Jennifer Jorgensen claimed his prize on Monday and chose the one-time payment of $3,609,886 (before taxes). He plans to use some of his winnings to purchase a home and pay for his children’s college tuition.

James said, “The best thing is I’m a huge Star Wars fan, so I was all decked out in a Star Wars hat and Star Wars shirt, and I won on May 4th which is an unofficial Star Wars holiday.”

The Quic Pic ticket was sold at Lowe’s Variety and Meat Shop on W. Main St. in Northborough and will receive $50,000 for its sale. The winning numbers were 4-11-15-26-30-40.

The Massachusetts State Lottery redesigned its Megabucks lottery game on November 13, 2023. The drawings for the lottery game are now three times a week: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. The numbers to choose from have also reduced from 49 to 44, increasing the odds of winning from 1 in 54 to 1 in 39.3.

Megabucks no longer include a “Doubler” component, tickets have increased to $2, up from $1.
